The Beauty Buffs - Polka Dots

The Beauty Buffs strike again! If it weren't obvious enough, this week's inspiration is polka dots. I've always loved polka dots. I actually did this look last week without even thinking of my Beauty Buffs post for this week. Since I loved this so much, I decided to save it until today! That little black nail sticker might look a bit familiar, too. Check out all the deets plus posts from the other BBs under the cut!

Falling for Nail Art: Halloween

Boo! It's time for Halloween. It all leads up to the 31st and then it's gone. Halloween being on a Thursday this year completely threw me off. Most people celebrated last weekend, but I was at work for a special event sale. I missed out on a few costume parties so I was pretty bummed. To make matters worse, I'll be at work tomorrow night instead of passing out candy to all the cuties. Boo.

For a quick and easy Halloween look, check out all the info after the jump.

L'Oreal - Berry Nice and a Jelly Nail Art Sandwich

After a terrible day, I shop to make myself feel better. Retail therapy always helps. I stopped at a grocery store after work to get ice cream and found myself near the makeup. Big surprise, huh? I spotted the new Miss Candy collection from L'Oreal. This collection has eight great jelly polishes. I picked up a few. Today's post features my favorite so far: Berry Nice. A nice syrupy grape jelly polish. It was opaque enough for me in three coats and had a great shiny and squishy look. I love this polish!

I'm not sure if any of you have seen a jelly nail art sandwich before this. I first saw it a few weeks ago when a picture was floating around in a few nail polish groups on Facebook. I'm not sure who was the original post. If you do, let me know! Here are a few ideas I wanted to try out first.

L'Oreal Berry Nice
four coats
WNW White Creme between
each layer for the nail art
no top coat

I free handed these designs with a small nail art brush. I was just testing out different designs. These are far from perfect, but I thought you might want to see them. The dotticure was my favorite. After that, the half circles. If I attempt this again, I'll use striping tape or a stamp.

See which design I chose for a full manicure after the jump...

Valentine's Hearts and Dots

I'm far from a nail art expert, but I like to give it a try every now and then. Today's manicure is a holographic pastel heart dotticure. I started off with a black base, didn't like it, and had to remove it. I finally settled on a gray base. I think I kind of love it.

Base: Sally Hansen Wet Cement
Hearts: Color Club Cloud Nine
Dots: Color Club Worth the Risque and Angel Kiss

These were fairly simple, although time consuming. For the hearts, I used a dotting tool to make two side by side dots for the top of the heart. With a small paint brush, I connected the bottom to finish the heart. It got much easier as I went along. After finishing the hearts, I added in the dots to the empty space.

Look at that! I can't wait to see this in the sun tomorrow. Well, that's if the sun even makes an appearance.

Do you have any plans for Valentine's day? Dates? Manicures? Downing a tub of Ben and Jerry's? Snuggles with the cat? Actually, all of those sound great. :)

12 Days of Christmas: Day Five Snow

Snow. What an ugly word! I hate snow. If I could have autumn all year round, I would never complain about the weather. Luckily, Pittsburgh hasn't been hit with the white fluffy stuff yet. The weather has been great lately, but enough about that. On to the polish!

This was a simple look. With how much I've been working, I had to take an easy day. I used a few of my favorite pastels for this look: Illamasqua Nomad, Illamasqua Jo'Mina, and Essie Where's My Chauffeur. I was getting tired of the red and green polish already. I had to mix it up.

I used a Bundle Monster plate and Zoya Trixie to create the snowflakes. I love how simple and clean this looks. To fill in some of the empty space, I used a small dotting tool. I finished it off with a coat of Seche Vite.

This is definitely a fun, simple, and refreshing holiday manicure. I love pastels in the winter.

Is anyone else hoping the snow holds off?

12 Days of Christmas: Day One Red and Green Only

Ho, ho ho! It's the first day of my nail art challenge. I'm not very well versed in nail art so this whole challenge is going to be a learning experience. For today's challenge, I decided to start off easy with a dotticure of red and green.

I used two coats of OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow Suede and two coats of Zoya Posh on my index and pinky as an accent. The application on both was a breeze. As with most matte polishes, the dry time was great.

This look didn't take long at all. I used dotting tools I purchased on eBay for a few dollars. They're super simple to use and easy to work with.

Just for fun, I wanted to see how this would look with a top coat. I'm so glad I added Seche Vite to this. I think it looks even more stunning!

For the matte look, the red base was my favorite, but the top coat completely changed it up. I love the green with red dots!
