Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids: Hot Plum

        Here's a new addition to the blog! This is my first makeup review. A few months ago, you'd never find me wearing anything on my lips other than Burt's Bees chapstick. My lips are pretty pigmented on their own and I never felt comfortable in lipstick. That's all changed!

Just for fun: My best grumpy cat face.

Pros:

• Perfect pinky purple.
• Super pigmented.
• Creamy and easy to apply texture.
• Decent staying power.
• Soft and hydrating formula.
• Available at drugstores at a nice price. (MSRP: $7.49)

Cons:

• Cheap packaging. 
• No "safety seal" on the product.
• Must keep in a cool place; easily melts.

        

        I absolutely love this product. Since first purchasing this one, I've already gone back for more! I'm up to four so far and I'll be picking up the others soon. Have you tried any of the colors from this line? What are your favorites? 

Valentine's Hearts and Dots

      I'm far from a nail art expert, but I like to give it a try every now and then. Today's manicure is a holographic pastel heart dotticure. I started off with a black base, didn't like it, and had to remove it. I finally settled on a gray base. I think I kind of love it. 

Base: Sally Hansen Wet Cement

Hearts: Color Club Cloud Nine

Dots: Color Club Worth the Risque and Angel Kiss

      These were fairly simple, although time consuming. For the hearts, I used a dotting tool to make two side by side dots for the top of the heart. With a small paint brush, I connected the bottom to finish the heart. It got much easier as I went along. After finishing the hearts, I added in the dots to the empty space. 

        Look at that! I can't wait to see this in the sun tomorrow. Well, that's if the sun even makes an appearance.

Matte Flakies

       Last night, I put on a England Lady of Shalott, a prominently blue shimmer with a bit of pink and purple in a blackened base. While it was perfect on its own, I needed something more. I mentioned it to my friend Karly and she had the best idea ever. Add a blue/green flakie polish and make it matte. Genius I tell you! Pure genius!

       I haven't worn flakies in such a long time. I actually forgot all about them until Karly mentioned it to me. Motley is a great mix of blue and green. It looked good glossy, but it's more mermaid like with the matte top coat. 

       Please don't mind the bit of tip wear I have. I didn't bother touching up the edges before adding the flakies and top coat. It looks fine in real life.

     Do you have any flakies? After seeing how great they look with a matte top coat, I don't think they'll be forgotten from now on. 

Lynnderella - The Red One

       My first limited edition Lynnderella! I wore this manicure yesterday for my six year anniversary with my mister. We went to see John Waters perform This Filthy World and then went out to dinner. All in all it was a pretty great night. Even better, I got plenty of compliments on my nails.

    The Red One is a gorgeous mix of various red glitters with blue iridescent flakes in a red jelly base. I wish I could list all the glitter packed in this polish, but it would take all day. There were plenty of hexes and squares. I even found a few hearts here and there. The blue flakes caught the light and really brought this to life. My favorite glitter in the mix: the red hexes that flash fuchsia! 

         The formula of The Red One was great. I didn't have to fish around or use the dabbing method. There was so much glitter! One coat would have been enough, but I wanted to kick it up a notch with another. One coat of Gelous and Out The Door were enough to smooth this out.  It really didn't disappoint. 

       This is far from an ordinary red glitter polish. I can't wait to wear it again. Next time, I'll use a darker base to really bring out the blue and fuchsia flashes. I'm thinking a dark hot pink or purple would be really pretty under this.  What do you think of this beauty?
