Down to a Fine (Nail) Art - ModCloth Inspired

Happy Thursday! Today's post is inspired by a dress I found while browsing one of my favorite online retailers. It's no secret that I'm fat. (Oh, no! She called herself the f word!) I'm not ashamed by my size at all, but finding clothes that I actually like can be a bit of a challenge. ModCloth definitely gives me options that I love. While I was browsing through the dresses, the one that inspired this look really jumped out at me!

For the inspo, the details, and how you can save $20 on your first ModCloth purchase, get out the rest of the post under the cut!

I love this dress! I actually put it on my wishlist as soon as I could. This dress is available in XS-4X. One of my favorite things about ModCloth is that no matter the size, the garments are always the same price. I can't tell you how many times I've heard others complain about having to pay an arm and a leg for the plus size version of something. It's refreshing to see a retailer that doesn't do that.

Materials Used

Rica Whiteout
acrylic paints
small nail art brush
Rica Glossy Glam

I started with a white base using Rica Whiteout because we all know how much I love that polish.

When using the acrylic paints, I've found it much easier to twist the caps off and use them as little paint pots. I don't end up wasting paint by pouring it out.

For this look, I just layered small brushstrokes of various shades of blue, green, and yellow. The pattern of the dress really gives you a lot of room to play around with this design. You can make it as bold or as subtle as you want.

If the design isn't looking very good while you're in the process, don't fret! Top coat can change everything. I was just "meh" about this look until I added Glossy Glam. I used two coats here. I found the acrylic paint to be a little on the bumpy side since I layered a lot of it. Trust me. Top coat is your best friend!

Do you think this is on point with the dress? I really love the cool blues and greens with the warmer yellow.

ModCloth has hundreds of other plus size dresses! If you don't like this one, I'm sure there's one you'll fall in love with.

If you're new to ModCloth, you can sign up with my referral link to get $20 off your first order of $50 or more. That's an awesome deal, plus I'll get a $20 store credit!

  1. Ahaha the first paragraph was hilarious! Modcloth is great: I have many friends who swear by it. :)

Loved the nail art, as well. I've been considering working with acrylic paint instead of polish, recently. Would you say it's worth the expense to make the switch?

  4. haha! I'm glad you enjoyed it. You need to check out ModCloth. It's definitely worth a look.

I love using acrylics. They're a lot easier to work with since they're so pigmented and don't dry thick and stringy. I got a ton on sale at Michael's last year. I can't remember how much they were per bottle, but they were under a $1 each. Maybe like $0.75 each? You can also mix them to make the shade you need. White and black are a must. You can lighten and darken to your desired look.

  5. I totally know what you mean. Plus, nail polish is expensive and I don't want to go through my limited editions or hard to finds! I have to savor those babies.

  6. Once a bottle goes half way through I treat it like liquid gold! No way I'm wasting a single drop on nail art that could go wrong.

  7. OMG that dress! I have been obsessed with starry night forever. My bedroom at my old out was starry night themed :) I have wanted to do starry night nails for like 3 years, but I keep being to lazy haha. I love yours, maybe one day I'll stop being a butt and do some too! :)
